Join author Allan Frater for a on-line workshop on imagination with a difference.
Based upon the recent publication of ‘The Act of Imagination: Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy in Experiential Context’
“A major contribution to the evolution of psychosynthesis.”
~ Molly Young Brown, author of Unfolding Self: The Practice of Psychosynthesis
“The clearest exposition of psychosynthesis I have read in my 20 years of practice as a psychotherapist.”
~ Susan Holliday, author of Hidden Wonders of the Human Heart
“I learned quite a bit from this book.”
~ Piero Ferrucci, author of The Art and Science of Psychotherapy and The Power of Kindness
This workshop will expand upon the importance of imagination in psychosynthesis psychotherapy, going beyond a narrow focus upon scripted visualisations, presenting a broad image-based approach to therapy and everyday life.
Instead of assuming images to be only subjective-personal mental pictures, separated from a purely objective reality, the act of imagination will be shown to connect self and world – creating the opportunity to understand and work with personal issues within the surrounding context of world issues.
Healing and transformation will be presented not, as is often assumed, by the replacement of fantasy with reality, but rather with the cultivation of imaginative life itself – in the activity of images within normal everyday life, work and relationships.
The workshop will be a mix of slideshow presentation, discussions, live demonstrations of the practical skills and short practicum opportunities.
Learning Outcomes you can expect from this workshop:
-Confidence in applying the principles and skills needed to release imaginative potential.
-Understanding the benefits of imaginative experiences over the limitations of figuring out what images mean.
-Distinguishing the playful unpredictability of imaginative process from the deadening and humourless effects of a formulaic scripted approach.
-Understanding imagination as a meta-function which includes sensations, feelings, thoughts, intuitions, perceptions and actions.
-Understanding how the synthesising capacities of imagination provide a radical clarification of the theoretical distinctiveness and experiential context of psychosynthesis psychotherapy.
